Here are just some of the illustrations I’ve worked on for Major Project. Some have made it into the book ‘The Silent Victims’, and some did not. But I put this together as a sort of a summary of the work I’ve done over the past three months. But this has only been one part of very big body of process!

Just another spread I’m developing for Illustory.

This one is for one of Mayumi Itoh’s haikus included in her book Japanese Wartime Zoo Policy: The Silent Victims of World War Two.

Here is one of the spreads for Illustory that I’m trying to refine. The first narrative of Illustory is about Hakko the leopard. The first illustration is Hakko’s framed in a stamp to suggest anthropomorphic qualities. The second is the word Hakko Ichiu derived from this flag below which is Japanese pilots who gathered under the flag of HakkĊ Ichiu:

I’ve been developing a map of Ueno Zoo

(based on the current layout as I don’t have a reference for the layout from 1943-45). | Ueno Zoo Map

The dark shades are indicating where I’ll place the keys for the 29 animals destroyed from Ueno Zoo. This map is be like a guide through my book (Illustory of the Silent Victims).

So I’m yet to work out further details….

This illustration is also unfinished but it’s meant to represent the hippopotamus pool that was emptied to dehydrate and destroy the hippos. I’m not sure how I can make it more feeling towards these poor creatures.
